Hello! My name is Ann Empfield.

After enjoying the privilege of homeschooling my own children for 28 years, I have been grateful for the chance to become a certified Institute for Excellence in Writing instructor. This has provided me the opportunity to guide other children in learning to write with clarity and confidence.

With over ten years of IEW experience, I have been thrilled to watch these young people succeed in standardized testing, college acceptance, and meaningful employment. I love to hear students express that they have seen growth in their writing ability. Many times students who have graduated from my courses contact me later to say that they are not only well prepared to write in college, they are also tutoring their fellow students, helping them utilize the IEW methods so they can write well too.

A little about me…

As Christians, my husband and I homeschooled all four of our children through high school. They now each pursue productive lives in either academics or in their careers.

While homeschooling, I experienced frustration over the difficulty in finding a method for instructing our children to write well. I was excited when I finally discovered the Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum. Purchasing their Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and practicum workbook in May, I decided I would work through the DVDs during the summer and apply the IEW process the following fall. When I began to view the first DVD, I was so excited by what I was learning that I wanted to start implementing the IEW approach right away! Although my children were less excited than I, they were good sports and allowed me to experiment with my newfound knowledge.

Since then, I have become an IEW certified instructor and now enjoy the privilege of equipping other children with the skills necessary to succeed in their writing endeavors. It is so rewarding to watch students as they begin to blossom in their writing ability. I appreciate the opportunity to instill in students a love for writing. It is my goal to give them tools to make writing interesting and to help them experience a sense of satisfaction when they see that they are able to write well.
