INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Live or Recorded Advanced 1 Grades 9-12

Intermediate 1 Grades 6-8

Students will receive thirty weeks of instruction from Units 1 – 9 of the Institute for Excellence in Writing Structure and Style Syllabus, providing them experience in various types of composition. Lessons will include creating outlines, writing summaries and reports, summarizing and critiquing stories, and composing essays. Techniques for improving word choice and sentence structure will be introduced as well. Each session lasts approximately one hour. Live sessions are limited to 15 students. Live or Recorded Intermediate 2 Grades 7-9

Intermediate 2 Grades 7-9

Students will receive thirty weeks of instruction from Units 1 – 9 of the Institute for Excellence in Writing Structure and Style Syllabus, providing them experience in various types of composition. Material will be presented at a more complex level than in Intermediate 1. Lessons will include creating outlines, writing summaries and reports, summarizing and critiquing stories, composing essays, and implementing citations. Techniques for improving word choice and sentence structure will be reviewed, and advanced techniques will be introduced as well. Each session lasts approximately one hour. Intermediate 3 Grades 8-10

This course includes thirty lessons which teaches students multiple composition forms. The first 15 weeks of class focus on six fundamental purposes for writing. These lessons will incorporate the IEW techniques students have already learned as well as teach them how to properly implement citations. The remaining weeks will be devoted to narrative writing and literary analysis. Students will learn how to skillfully incorporate narrative elements and dialog into their writing. Additionally, they will learn how to analyze literary works instead of simply summarizing them. Each live session lasts approximately one hour and is limited to 15 students.
